WYND HOUSE – GARDENS

Explore the gardens at Wynd House, Elie. Wynd House has a choice of four gardens for you to enjoy, all enclosed within a historic 16th century stone wall. The garden occupies a medieval ‘rood’- sized plot from the high street to the sea.

These heritage gardens are an attraction in themselves, and are designed, depending on the direction of the wind and the sun, so that you can always find a sheltered spot to relax.

A  mediaeval gold-hilted court sword was unearthed in the main garden in an old tree stump– imagine the story this garden must tell as it dates to the times of the ‘Rough Wooing” and the turmoil of Mary Queen of Scots and the Reformation….
Today, it is used to play croquet, practise archery, play football or practise golf putting!

The front garden faces south and the sea and enjoys sun most of the day. This is the sundowner spot; on the bench, facing west.

The Sea Garden with the Sauna is on the other side of the Terrace, with direct access to the sea, and is very sunny and south facing. There is a ladder you can climb down to the beach. It also has the hidden entrance to the tunnel into the basement of the house.

The Nun’s Garden at the back of the cottage has a greenhouse in it, and we are currently trying to restore it to a kitchen garden with fruit trees.
